1969
Shelf Master Founded
After retiring from 20 years in the US Army, Don Kramer partners with his friend Barney Hudson to start Shelf Master.
1970
Incorporation & First Storefront
The company is officially incorporated. Operating out of a storefront on Valley Boulevard in Industry, CA, they begin buying and selling used warehouse and office equipment.
1972
Early Expansion & First Hires
The business moves to a small industrial park in Santa Ana, CA. They shift focus to selling shelving and benches, hire their first salesperson and installer, and purchase a 12-foot delivery truck.
1976
Introduction of Boltless Shelving
Shelf Master relocates within Orange County and begins warehousing inventory, notably “Rivetier” (the original boltless shelving). Mike Grogan joins the sales team, eventually becoming a part-owner.
1978
Pallet Racks Added
Building on its core business, the company begins selling and installing pallet racks, propelling annual sales
1980
Move to Orange, CA
Continued growth forces a move to a larger facility in the city of Orange.
1983
Full-Service Distribution
The company officially becomes a full-service distributor and installer of rack and shelving, maintaining inventory for both. Delivery and installation fleets are expanded.
1989
Rapid Growth & Modernization
Following six years of significant growth, the team grows to 18 employees, and the company purchases its first computer system.
1991
Relocation to Anaheim Headquarters
Shelf Master moves to its current, larger location at 2387 East Coronado Street in Anaheim, CA, providing dedicated office space for growing sales and administrative teams.
1995
Retail Sector Expansion
Led by industry veteran Richard Freiholtz, the company branches into the retail sector of storage systems, establishing a highly valuable new business division.
1997
Used Equipment Division
Operations expand again with the addition of a dedicated “used equipment” warehouse, which drives steady, year-over-year sales growth.
2004
A New Generation of Leadership
Founder Don Kramer retires, as his son, Kirk M. Kramer, takes over as President to lead the company into its next chapter.
2009
Navigating Economic Challenges
Through resilience and a steadfast commitment to its core values, Shelf Master successfully navigates the hurdles of the Great Recession, relying on hard work to maintain stability and weather the multi-year downturn.
2016
Expansion into Tenant Storage
Seeking to diversify its product offerings, the company begins supplying and installing tenant storage lockers for apartments and condominiums. This strategic addition quickly develops into a highly successful new avenue for growth.

Pandemic Resilience & Adaptation
Faced with the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shelf Master adapts its operations and innovates new ways of doing business, ultimately allowing the company to emerge stronger and more agile.
